Spooky season is among us, but so are assignments and exams!
It's so important you're avoiding academic misconduct and steering clear of any goulish academic frights you might have.
The SU is all about treats this Halloween, so let us help you avoid the tricks with the following tips to help you out of the dark when it comes to academic misconduct!
- Understand what academic misconduct is, such as plagiarism, self-plagiarism, falsification, collusion, AI misconduct, exam cheating, and contract cheating. Take the "Academic Integrity and Academic Writing" course on SOL for more guidance.
- Paraphrase in your own words to avoid plagiarism. Don't just rearrange sentences—read, then write from memory. Use quotation marks if copying words directly from a source (however, stick to short phrases rather than long paragraphs).
- Check your Turnitin similarity score and correct high matches by reviewing your references.
- Discuss ideas, but ensure your work is your own. Avoid closely working with others to prevent collusion.
- If short-term personal challenges arise, consider submitting an Extenuating Circumstances claim or requesting an extension to avoid rushing and making mistakes.
- Plan ahead to manage your time and avoid last-minute errors or the temptation to cut corners.
- Use AI tools as a starting point, but rely on credible sources for research and assignments.
