Main Manifesto
I am running for female officer to represent what is important to you and enhance your university experience. It is crucial to me that you feel comfortable communicating your needs and can access support as efficiently as possible. My central goals are to build long-lasting community and empowerment. I would love to be another friendly face listening to you at your student union.
If successful, I pledge to promote the MySolent App and enhance its student support page by making it more visually obvious and interactive. A space where the student hub and wellbeing departments resources are combined with wellbeing hacks, discussion forums and health logs. I envision the app to be a safe container where students can say what contents/features will be most beneficial for them. I want to inspire a fun space where advice and resources are at your fingertips. Together we can create an excellent opportunity to spur involvement across the facilities, enhance student wellbeing and strengthen our community.
Furthermore, I will build momentum for a bystander initiative against assault. The initiative would provide prevention training and empower students to take control. I am a psychology (counselling and mental health) student currently on an exchange semester at Uwindsor in Canada. Uwindsor aims to "shift campus climate, look out for one another, and build a community that does not tolerate assault". I have witnessed how the bystander initiative has benefited their students and feel that it is important that we also implement additional measures to help students feel equipped. I believe the bystander initiative will fit hand in hand with the Safe Solent campaign.
Lastly, I will motivate a variety of female workshops to aid students physically, mentally, and spiritually. In alignment with Solents' 2013 Student Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, I will work to empower students who identify as female by sourcing and raising awareness of female conferences and opportunities (all this information could be presented in a 'Gal Pals' offshoot from the MySolent App). As a student with a passion for women's health and inclusivity, I will also strive to encourage the involvement of women's and gender studies in the curriculum.
Overall, I aim to support your wellbeing wins and empower you through communication, inclusivity, and accessibility. As a course representative, Unibuddy ambassador, and student mentor I have had the pleasure of supporting many students across the university and would love to support you too!
