The Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) is a residence permit that holds a migrant’s biographic details (name, date, and place of birth), their biometric information (facial image and fingerprints), their immigration status, and their entitlements whilst they remain in the UK.
f your BRP expires on 31/12/24 you do not need to do anything unless you receive an email from the Home Office inviting you to create an eVisa account, which is an online record of your immigration status.
The UK is currently transitioning to a fully electronic immigration system, and BRPs are being phased out. However, it is likely that some students will still be issued physical BRP cards for courses starting in September 2024. Your visa decision letter will detail whether you need to collect a BRP card or if you can access an eVisa on an online portal.
Eventually, all students will be able to create an eVisa account and prove their immigration status online. The International Support team will keep you updated when this is likely to happen. Your BRP is still valid until its expiry date, and your immigration permission remains valid until the end date stated on your visa letter.
More information on eVisa can be found on https://www.gov.uk/guidance/online-immigration-status-evisa.
