How to Hire the Students’ Union Minibus
The Students’ Union has a minibus available for student groups to use for trips, to visit places of interest or to attend events. You can book the minibus from Sandie Jones in the Administraion and Representation office.Try to book as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment. Before you leave you must provide us with a full passenger list. We will then give you the keys, along with a mileage form and fuel cards. When you return, drop the keys, cards and completed mileage form off as soon as possible, as others may be waiting to use the bus. Make sure all windows are closed and the bus is properly locked.
Cost
Minibuses are not cheap to run and come with many costs, including petrol, maintenance and insurance. Although the Union subsidises these costs, there is still a small charge of 55p per mile, and 40p per mile after the first 150 miles. You will have to pay a £20 returnable deposit. Please leave the bus clean and tidy otherwise we will keep this as a cleaning fee.
Driving the Minibus
In order to drive the minibus you must pass our minibus driving test. To book a test please register your interest with Sandie Jones in the Administration and Representation Office.
Please note that you must:
- Be over the age of 21
- Have held a clean UK driving license for at least two years.
- Have had no accidents or convictions for at least five years.
Efficient Driving
Simple training in efficient driving can cut fuel consumption by 20%. We include efficient driving techniques in our minibus training test, and provide notes on optimum tyre pressure in our pre-journey checklist.
Damage/Breakdowns
If you break down contact the AA for assistance. Details are on the mileage sheet. Check the bus before you leave for any damage, and report it to us if there is any. If damage occurs while you have the bus, report it to us no matter how big or small. Major damage to the bus will incure a charge of £250 (the value of the excess on our insurance). All buses are checked for damage at the end of the day. If damage is found that hasn’t been reported, all groups that used the vehicle that day will be banned from further use until responsibility is established.
